According to sources in Germany, a mouthwatering heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko is just days away from being announced. IBF king Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn and his counterpart Bernd Bönte have been locked in talks to make the multi-belt, superfight after unified WBA and WBO champion Tyson Fury pulled out of a proposed rematch with Klitschko, and then tested positive for cocaine after a random doping test last month. The lineal champion was looking to repeat his historic points win over the Ukrainian from last November, but is instead now awaiting news from the aforementioned organisations who are reportedly ready to strip the inactive Englishman and sanction the Joshua v Klitschko ruck.
Confirmation on the title situation is due at the end of this week, although Hearn (Matchroom) and Bönte (K2 promotions) have reportedly already agreed to the moneyspinning fight with just the location and date left to trash out. Unbeaten British star Joshua (17(17)-0) is currently slated to defend his IBF crown in Manchester on November 26th, however, with confirmation of the Klitschko bout due in the coming days, Hearn now feels that a December date is a more realistic option. “There are plenty of hurdles to overcome still and day by day we are ticking each of them off and I think there is a real expectancy from all sides now that that will be the next fight,” Hearn stated. “Can we push that back to December? I’d like a little bit more time, that’s a possibility as well. Wladimir wants the fight and all being well we can overcome the inevitable hurdles that come with a magnitude of this fight,” he added.
