Former three-weight world champion Shane Mosley will face Venezuelan Patrick Lopez on December 17th in Panama. The American ended a two-year absence from boxing to score a stoppage win over Ricardo Mayorga back back in August, in what was a well overdue rematch from their first fight back in 2009. The welterweight ruck with Lopez (23(14)-5) is part of the ‘KO drugs’ event which takes place at Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City and ties in with the 94th WBA convention.
Also on the bill, Luis Concepcion faces Giovani Segura for the interim WBA super flyweight title in a cracking matchup and Jezreel Corrales faces Juan Antonio Rodriguez for the aforementioned organisation’s super featherweight title. Mosley v Lopez is part of the televised undercard and they will battle it out for the fringe WBA international 147 lb title, however, former unified welterweight titlist Mosley (48(40)-9-1) insists he is fighting for more than that.
“I will fight for at the WBA Convention in honor of [WBA President] Gilberto Mendoza,” Mosley stated. “He has been sick and I’ve always thought about him and his family. I spent a lot of time with him in Panama. So I told him I would be at Christmas with him and fight in his event KO Drugs. I’m fighting for my friend Gilberto. If I can raise his spirits, I’m happy to oblige. I’m ready to show the world that I’m still world class,” the American added.
