Rumours circulating that shock death of Dean Powell in London earlier his week was suicide

Dean Powell suicide

By Jordan Stoddart

According to numerous online reports, Dean Powells cause of death earlier this week was suicide. If the news is true then it compounds the already shocking news which stunned British boxing fans when the unexpected news broke on Tuesday. Powell had been a stalwart of the domestic scene for 3 decades predominantly working with veteran promoter Frank Warren and working alongside boxing greats in Lennox Lewis, Joe Calzaghe and Nigel Benn (to name a few) as a matchmaker, manager and an excellent cornerman. Many sites and a number of Twitter accounts of current British fighters have suggested the highly respected and well liked Powell sadly committed suicide aged 47.

London news site www.thisislocallondon.co.uk appear to have backed up this story by confirming the heartbreaking death on Tuesday. ‘A man has died after being hit by a train at New Cross Gate station this morning. London Ambulance Service crews were called at 11.15am where the man was pronounced dead at the scene.’ The London Ambulance Service also released a statement after attending the incident. ‘We were called at 11.15 to reports of a person hit by a train at New Cross Gate station. We sent a single responder in a car, two ambulance crews, a duty officer and members of our hazardous area response team. But sadly one person, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene.’
